Money raised
Funds raised through Do More Than Drink ‘18 will allow Scarf to continue transforming young lives through awesome hospitality training, mentoring and paid work experience programs. We take great pride in paying our trainees the Restaurant Industry Award wage for their work during Scarf Dinners. Across a 10-week season, a Scarf trainee will earn around $1,000 and this is often their first taste of employment in Australia.
A lack of local work experience and referees is widely recognised to be a key barrier to employment. For every $1,000 raised during Do More Than Drink, another young person will earn a wage during our 10-week program, and be able to list their experience at Scarf Dinners as recent, local employment experience on their resume.
Last year, Do More Than Drink ‘17 raised $27K, which allowed us to provide around 1,100 hours of paid work experience to trainees during Scarf Dinners. Funds raised helped us provide training opportunities to 40 young people last year, all of them gaining skills, knowledge, networks and tons of confidence. And, with 70% of Scarf trainees finding work within six months of graduating (with recent graduates now working at places like Higher Ground Melbourne, Garden State Hotel, Vertue Coffee, Cumulus Inc, The Two Birds Nest and Atticus Finch), we can confidently say that the funds raised during Do More Than Drink ‘18 will literally transform the lives of young people facing barriers to work.
